Washington paid out for us yesterday and they’ll look to do so again today with another huge mismatch on the mound. 38 hits in 4 days has the Nationals in a groove that we like to see when we’re putting money behind them. They’ve won 5 of 6 while the Rockies have dropped 6 in a row. Washington welcomes back Bryce Harper after his day off and they look to win their 4th on the road and their 5th in a row over Colorado.
The Rockies are hurting once again and will not be giving their team a fair shot of winning this one with Yohan Flande getting the start. He’s 0-2 with a 7.36ERA in 14.2 innings of work surrendering 21 hits. He wasn’t able to strike out a single batter in his last start on July 6 and went back to Triple A to give up another 8 runs in 6 innings over 2 games. Awful.
Jordan Zimmerman is 6-5 with a 3.03ERA and will make his first start after mildly straining his bicep on July 11. He sat out the All-Star Game and got enough rest to be good to go without any pitch count restrictions. He’s the kind of pitcher that gives you confidence in his ability to control the game and to limit opportunities from the opposing team.
The Nats are simply hitting well with Ryan Zimmerman scoring in 5 straight games and getting on base 8 games in a row. Ian Desmond was 5-5 last night after a HR and 2 RBIs. Look for the Nats to continue this hot streak tonight.
